- 5:30-6:30PM : Beginner West Coast Swing 101 Class Part 1
Class is GSDTA certified
6 weeks for $50.00 per person
- 6:30-7:30PM : Bridging from Basic This class is designed for those who have completed Beginners 1 and 2 and have a good foundation
6 weeks for $50.00 per person
- 7:30-8:30PM : Intermediate+
Must have instructor approval to register
6 weeks for $50.00 per person

No Partner needed for all class.

Open Dance every Tuesday night after class 8:30-10:00PM $5.00 cover, no charge for class members.

West Coast Swing: Learning More About West Coast Swing 101

In an effort to preserve the fundamentals and characteristics of West Coast Swing, the World Swing Dance Council delved back into formal Pattern Names & Lists, starting in 1952 - and followed the development and evolution up through 2008, in order to sanction 14 BASIC PATTERNS in West Coast Swing. This was necessary in order to present 14 Patterns that could authentically represent the essence of West Coast Swing. We have had numerous requests over the past 18 years to clarify these basics. This is actually timely because of growing requests, not just across our nation, but world-wide, to provide a BASIC LIST that would serve as the 14 required, compulsory, patterns for a new, Fundamental Competition.


Here is the current proposed list for West Coast Swing 101:

13. Release Whip (Selected form of Basic Whip)8 beats

For "West Coast 101" Competitions, dancers may dance as few as 5 - or as many (maximum) as ALL 14 Patterns, in any order, PLUS "California Shuffle" or a Triple Rhythm Break that can serve as a "Thinking Step" for a Leader, or a "fill in step" to complete a phrase, or to mark time in place for either partner.


West Coast 101 Competitions currently scheduled in

- Kona in May 2009
- Jack & Jill O’Rama in June
- Miami Magic in July
- and France in August 2009


West Coast 101 competitions will be held as a “Jack and Jill”

To be eligible to compete in West Coast 101:
-- you do NOT have to be a Beginner
-- you do NOT have to qualify as a Newcomer
-- you may already be participating as a Novice dancer
-- but you are NOT eligible for West Coast 101 - if you have ever PLACED in the TOP 5 in a World Swing Dance Council recognized Competition.
